Marking the very First International Day of Education

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 24 January as International Day of Education in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.
"Education is the most powerful tool you can use to transform the world." On 3 December 2018, the United Nations General Assembly adopted with consensus a resolution proclaiming 24 January as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development. The adoption of the resolution 73/25 “International Day of Education”, co-authored by Nigeria and 58 other Member States, demonstrated the unwavering political will to support transformative actions for inclusive, equitable and quality education for all. By doing so, the international community reiterated that education plays a key role in building sustainable and resilient societies, and contributes to the achievement of all other Sustainable Development Goals as it dedicated a special day to celebrate education worldwide. Quality Education GESCI aims at ensuring access to quality and actively contributing towards achievement of Sustainable Development Goal no. 4 through it's African Digital Schools Initiative (ADSI) Programme.The programme is an innovative blended learning approach aiming at transforming secondary schools into Digital Schools of Distinction through ICT Integration at whole-school level and capacity building of teachers on use of technology in teaching and learning.The ADSI programme is currently under implementation in 140 secondary schools in Kenya, Tanzania and Cote d'Ivoire reaching out to 1600 teachers over 70,000 students. The programme is keen on ensuring that those in school are not just able to access education but are actually learning by incorporating various aspects of teaching that also cater for learners who are differently abled. As the World marks the 1st International Day of Education, GESCI wishes to work with governments and partners in providing strategic supports to develop and implement models of good ICT-based practice for high-quality education & training and to build effective leadership abilities in ICT and Knowledge Society development among Government officials across the Developing world.
