January 2019: The African Digital Schools Initiative (ADSI) is being implemented in 140 secondary schools in Kenya, Tanzania and Cote d'Ivoire. Over 1500 teachers of Science, Technology, English and Mathematics (STEM) and other subjects have since benefited. The training cycles started with Technology Literacy in 2017 where teachers were introduced to basic computer knowledge.In 2018, the went a level higher through the knowledge Deepening Cycle which encompassed learner involvement in lessons.This year, they are going through Knowledge Creation where teachers have been introduced to Information Literacy, Research and Identifying Difficult To Teach Concepts as per learner Feedback then device ways to deliver so learners can easily understand the topics. The training has reached teachers in 80 secondary schools in Kenya from the counties of Nyamira, Taita Taveta, Narok and Kiambu.It will be ongoing online for the next 6 weeks,there after teachers will access a quiz through a online platform where all the 1500 teachers get to interact through chats and Discussion Fora. ADSI is an innovative ICT in Education Model aimed at transforming secondary schools into Digital Schools of Distinction (DSD) which use ICTs in all school activities and capacity building for teachers.This initiative is funded by Mastercard Foundation, Canada.
