4-6^th October Dakar ,Senegal: GESCI was invited to the African Union's "Innovating Education in Africa Expo" event in Dakar, Senegal. Our Chief Executive Officer Jerome Morrissey and Manager Partnerships, Programme Design and Resourcing Angela Arnott attended the Expo. In her opening remarks H.E. Prof Sarah Anyang Agbor, Commissioner for Human Resources, Science and Technology, African Union Commission expressed her pleasure to be part of this inaugural innovating education expo. She voiced her appreciation at the high level representation from the Republic of Senegal as well as from other AU Member States towards the realization of the African Union vision which is “An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa, driven by its own citizens and representing a dynamic force in global arena”. H.E. Prof Sarah Anyang Agbor called upon AU Member States to focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and work towards inclusive education in our continent saying that “education is most important in the realization of our collective destiny”. She reiterated that the event has to identify innovative ways and replicate them and the need for investment in new innovations that Africa needs in STEM. She also applauded the high level political commitment and participation from private sector. The African Union Strives to contribute towards revitalized, quality, relevant, and harmonized education systems responsive to the needs of Africa, taking into account Africa’s aspiration and capacity in terms of human and material resources; systems that produce Africans with appropriate attitudes, values, knowledge and skills to facilitate attainment of the AU vision; systems that generate applied and new knowledge and contribute towards its harnessing for meeting Africa’s challenges as well as placing Africa firmly within the core of the global knowledge economy This is in line with GESCI’s mandate in terms of education which aims at transforming secondary schools into Digital Schools of Distinction through incorporation of ICTs in teaching and learning. GESCI is currently implementing an innovative ICT in Education initiative dubbed African Digital Schools Initiative in 3 African Countries. The Projects Framework is designed to reach learners and teachers through 3 cycles of training. ADSI Teachers are trained on how to simplify delivery of lessons by use of audio visual content, web quests and concepts maps which completely summarize topics making it easy for students to internalize. Currently ADSI has reached out to over 1500 teachers of Science, Technology English and Mathematics (STEM) and at least 7000 students. At the Expo, our CEO Jerome Morrissey was in 5 judge bench reviewing presentations/innovative projects by participants from 5 African Countries. GESCI has also pioneered Skills training for the youth, the pilot was implemented in Kenya over three phases where youth were taken through skills training in the areas of Animation, Mobile Games and Apps Design and Music and Sound Production. Over 60 youth,31 being female have benefited from this project. GESCI is grateful to its partners and donors for enabling implementation of  its projects. Our impact is felt. Two ADSI teachers in Kenya were crowned ICT Teachers of The Year in 2017 and 2018 as well. Several Alumni from the Digital Creative Media (DCM)Skills training have landed lucrative deals in the creative arts industry in Kenya.
