GESCI contributes to global debate on ICT & Education

2015 is a key year for global development. The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are currently being reviewed and new sustainable goals are being formulated for the next 15 years. The Education For All (EFA) initiative is also being reviewed, outcomes evaluated and new achievable goals are being formulated for the next 15 years which will have profound effects on both quality and access to education in the developing world (Education for All (EFA) and on the important role that ICT will play in achieving this goal.
GESCI actively contributes at both the World Education Forum and the International Conference on ICT and Post 2015 education 2015 is a key year for global development. The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are currently being reviewed and new sustainable goals are being formulated for the next 15 years. The Education For All (EFA) initiative is also being reviewed, outcomes evaluated and new achievable goals are being formulated for the next 15 years which will have profound effects on both quality and access to education in the developing world (Education for All (EFA) and on the important role that ICT will play in achieving this goal. The World Education Forum 2015, organised by UNESCO and other UN bodies, was help in Incheon, Korea, from Monday 17th - Friday 22nd May. There was an attendance of approximately 900 attendees from all over the world and which included about 130 ministers of education. The key goals of the Forum were to assess the progress of the Dakar Framework for Action adopted at the last Forum, held in Dakar, Senegal in 2000 as well as to evaluate the progress made in the Education for All initiative (EFA) initiative. The Forum also prepared and agreed a new post-2015 education agenda and set forth a realistic action plan for implemented by the international community for the next 15 years. It was an invitation only forum. GESCI was represented at two sessions at which the CEO made presentations and took party in discussions. One of which was entitled “Innovating through Technology: Shaping the Future of Education”. We also had an official seating presence on the conference floor. The International Conference on ICT and Post 2015 Education, organised by China and UNESCO, took place immediately after the Incheon forum in Qingdao in Southern China from 23rd – 26th May. An invitation only conference, this event was attended by about 500 people from both China and from around the world. There was also a large attendance of ministers of education from African and from around the world. GESCI’s CEO spoke at 2 workshops and took part in discussions sessions during these and other sessions. GESCI had a formal seating presence at this conference also. GESCI made contact with existing and potential new partners including several Ministers of Education and their official representatives from several countries including Cote D’Ivoire, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Zanzibar, Ghana, Gambia, Zambia, Mali, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Colombia, Norway, Italy and Germany. The CEO also spoke to the ADEA, COL, UNHCR and several UNESCO officials.
