Legal Structure
GESCI is legally registered in the Republic of Kenya as a non-profit making body and non -Governmental Organization under section 10 of the NGO Coordination Act. In 2011, GESCI (signed an Host Country Agreement with the Government of Kenya to establish its headquarters in Kenya. GESCI and its international staff enjoy some privileges and immunities normally accorded to Diplomatic Missions as specified in the Privileges and Immunities Act under Kenya Gazette supplement no.139 of 18th October 2011.
Governance Structure
GESCI’s formal governance structure is composed of Members and Directors. These Members and Directors are advised by a number of committees.
As a non-profit, non-governmental organisation, GESCI’s trustees are called Members and are the subscribers to the organisation’s constitution. The Members are largely representative of GESCI stakeholders including
- developing country governments
- development agencies
- civil society
- private sector
