GESCI's participation at the ADEA 2017 Triennale

The GESCI Team actively participated in the ADEA 2017 Triennale centered on the theme “Revitalizing Education towards the Global 2030 Agenda and Africa’s Agenda 2063”

The GESCI Team actively participated in the ADEA 2017 Triennale centered on the theme “Revitalizing Education towards the Global 2030 Agenda and Africa’s Agenda 2063”

The ADEA Triennale formerly referred to as “Biennale” is one of the most important global events on education and training in Africa, not only for the content of the discussions but also for the quality of the analytical work.

GESCI was privileged to participate in a number of plenary sessions, consultative events and side events including The 2nd Korea-Africa Day - KERIS session on ICT in Education where the CEO Jerome Morrissey was a panelist.

On 14th March, 2017 GESCI CEO Jerome participated in two consultative events “Understanding, Monitoring and Improving Teaching and Learning in Africa”, Secondary Education in Africa Today-Consultation on the development of a Flagship Report which were led the The MasterCard Foundation. Jerome talked about a pilot project Strengthening Innovation and Practice in Secondary Education(SIPSE) implemented by GESCI in Kenya and Tanzania, which focused on teacher professional development, and the ongoing African Digital Schools Initiative (ADSI) which helps learners acquire 21st Century Skills.The ADSI project has been implemented in Kenya and is set to kick off in Tanzania and Cote d’Ivoire.

The GESCI CEO was also in the plenary session on Skills Development, Youth Employability, Entrepreneurship and Decent Work for all. Jerome introduced AKE and how the model helps talented African youth acquire the knowledge and develop the skills to create marketable products and enterprises in the field of creative digital media.

The other session in which Mary Hooker, Senior Education Specialist, GESCI participated in is Promoting Science, Mathematics and Information and Communication Technology where she spoke about Cultivating synergies in enhancing ICT competencies using a partnership approach.

In addition to that, Mary Hooker discussed the role of higher education in training STEM teachers that are needed for African education systems to achieve their goals to provide African economies with the needed STEM skills for developing their economies during the Higher Education and STEM plenary session.

During the event GESCI signed two MOUs, one with the Ministry of Primary, Secondary and Professional Education of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and another with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Guinea (MoHESR), Republic of Guinea, GESCI CEO Jerome Morrissey and Tarek Chehidi GESCI’s Manager of Advocacy, Strategic Alliances and Programme Development were present at the signing of the two MOUs.
