The GESCI AKE Regional Policy Forum is held during the first or final phase of the 1 year training of the youth in the areas of Animation, Music and Sound Design, Games and Mobile Apps Development summed up as Digital Creative Media.
An action research conducted over a year, was to study the implementation of the AKE model with a focus on how GESCI could provide scalable models to address the increasingly urgent need for replicable high quality skills development programme for attaining digital skills and enterprise development within the cultural and creative media industries in the region.
GESCI aims at creating and maintaining strategic partnerships and networks with the creative media industries, research institutions, relevant government agencies, potential employers, innovation hubs, funding partners and Digital Creative Media (DCM) entrepreneurs.
During this year's forum,GESCI will be catalysing inclusive opportunities for youth with special reference to youth skilling and enterprise development. GESCI together with international experts, local tutors, living lab researchers and industry partners successfully designed a cohesive, high quality ,interdisciplinary and future oriented creative media youth development programme (enterprise development model) that could serve as a reference point for youth skills and enterprise development in the region.
For the 2016/2017 year of training, 21 participants successfully went through the through the case and graduated in December 2016 and successfully proceeded to the incubation phase where they have since developed 7 start up companies all registered under the Kenya Business Act.For more details on the policy forum. theses and the Start-Up companies see culturalindustriesafrica.org/akenew/living-lab-research/
